WHAT IS BOCCE?
Gotcha Bocce... if you can
breathe, you can play.
Bocce is played on a long rectangular court with eight
large bocce balls and one small target ball called the
"pallino". The object of the game is to roll the bocce ball
closest to the pallino.
Bocce has no age advantage, no gender advantage, and
requires no special training or equipment. You don't even
need to rent smelly shoes! It does require hand-eye
coordination, touch, feel, and a little luck. It may be
played one-on-one or in teams. It is a very social game and
can be as competitive as the participants choose it to be.
Bocce's roots go back more than 7,000 years to Egypt, where
there is evidence of a bowling game involving the tossing
of polished stones. Ancient Greek soldiers tossed large
stones at stationary targets. Roman soldiers refined this
activity into what bocce is today.
